COURSE OVERVIEW

Upon arrival in Anchorage, Alaska, be prepared to discover the final great frontier. Observe the abundant marine animal and bird life while cruising the pristine waters of Kenai Fjords National Park, explore the natural wonders of Denali National Park, and experience the thunderous force of enormous crystal-blue icebergs falling into Knik Lake in the Mat-Su Valley. All this and much more on a ten-day fully escorted tour. ACTIVITY SCHEDULE

Day 1: Wednesday, August 10
6:30am Depart LAX
2:30pm Arrive in Anchorage, gateway to this country’s final great frontier.
Travel south to the town of Seward. Scenic sights along the way include Crow Creek Mine,
Big Game Alaska, and the Alaska Sealife Center.
Overnight accommodations in Seward

Day 2: Thursday, August 11
8:00am Breakfast
10:00am The entire day is spent cruising the Kenai Fjord National Park and experiencing first-hand the abundant marine animal and bird life along with tidewater glaciers and Seward's scenic coastal line.
6:00pm Dinner

Day 3: Friday, August 12
7:00am Breakfast
8:00am Travel back towards Anchorage stopping for any attractions missed on the first day
10:00am Alaska Native Heritage Center
12:00n Lunch
2:00pm Airboat shuttle to Knik Glacier
7:00pm Check-in to Mat-Su Valley lodging, BBQ dinner

Day 4: Saturday August 13
6:00am Self-serve continental breakfasts provided in each guest home.
8:00am Spend the morning enjoying a guided ice trek along the Matanuska Glacier, a massive glacier nestled in the mountains of the high country. The afternoon’s adventure includes whitewater rafting on the Lion’s Head river, perfect for first-timers.
Overnight stay at Mat-Su Valley

Day 5: Sunday, August 14
8:00am Breakfast
9:30am Travel to Talkeetna
11:00am Talkeetna Ranger Station presentation on Mt. McKinley
1:00pm Picnic lunch
2:00pm Wilderness Safari aboard the Talkeetna Queen riverboat, including a short nature hike to a trapper’s cabin with authentic furnishings. Tour an Iditarod Musher's kennel in Talkeetna.
6:00pm Pizza dinner at Mat-Su Valley lodgings

Day 6: Monday, August 15
7:30am Breakfast
10:00am All-day guided hike through Hatcher Pass and historic Independence Gold Mine.
5:00pm Musk Ox farm tour. Learn about the descendants of the prehistoric woolly mammoth.
6:00pm Dinner
* Choose from evening educational program or free/play time.

Day 7: Tuesday, August 16
7:00am Breakfast
10:00am All-day guided biking along the shore trails of Eklutna Lake, a pristine glacier-fed lake.
5:00pm Dinner and Presentation.
7:00pm Final overnight in Mat-Su Valley

Day 8: Wednesday, August 17
8:00am Breakfast
10:00am Travel to Denali. Picnic lunch.
2:00pm Three-hour nature hike
5:30pm Dinner
7:00pm Denali overnight accommodations.

Day 9: Thursday, August 18
7:00am Breakfast at local diner
9:30am All-day trip through the park to Wonderlake
5:30pm Dinner and return to Denali accommodations

Day 10: Friday, August 19
7:00am Breakfast
9:00am Return to Anchorage with sightseeing along the way
4:55pm Depart Anchorage
11:07pm Arrive LAX and say our goodbyes 

- Alaska's Bird Learning and Treatment Center. Presentation of rescue and rehabilitation efforts of Alaska's bird life
- Federal Biologist, Brian Anderson, gives an endangered species of Alaska slide presentation.
- Program on restoration of the Canadian Aleutian Goose.
- Presentation of Alaska's geology by Geologist, Harvey Bowers.
- Iditarod presentation by Iditarod musher. Learn about the Iditarod, meet a real musher, and part of the team.

Alaskan Adventure Logistics
Alaskan accommodations will consist of multiple persons per room or building, including upscale bunkhouse-style lodging in Denali and Mat-Su Valley and hotel rooms with 2 twin beds in Seward. Sleeping bags are required in Denali and Mat-Su Valley lodgings. Participants can bring their own sleeping bags or rent them for an additional $35 per person.
